Wednesday...

Cool and windy here, with a touch of snow again yesterday morning, but the next few days are supposed to be warmer. Spring in the Rockies...

The yellow crocuses are still blooming, and my first daffodil is about to open:

Monday...

A fine spring morning - not!

snowy spring morning

Oh well, we need the moisture.

Here's a more seasonal shot from yesterday...

(It's stopped snowing now, but I don't think I'll be doing much gardening today!)

Saturday extra...

I took some pictures yesterday of different stages of one of my recent projects - making small wire rings to give away. Here's an example of the finished product:

wire ring making

and here's a link to the rest of the pictures. It came about as part of a larger interest in making miniature votive items, but that's a story for another day...

Friday...

Already? What happened to the week? Well, a lot of gardening and garden carpentry (pictures soon), plus yesterday indoor rearrangements and paper shredding (do I really need personnel records from twenty years ago?) to make more storage room for copies of my books, which were infringing on a bookcase (valuable space!). Anyway... Back to the subject of writing.

As an example of the sort of research I do for my books, here's my reference list so far for The Druid's Son. The link is to one of my "collections" on LibraryThing.com, a dangerous place which can induce book buying. Take a look at your peril - you have been warned.

Also new at Aldertree Books today - a Special Promotions page. Check it out for April's offering...

More pictures later today - in the meantime, back to work...

Monday...

Spent the weekend gardening and observing the Equinox, first with SBGH and then at home. The latter observance was yesterday, when we planted a plum tree in the front yard (no more room for fruit trees in the back) and had our regular fire at sunset.

The crocuses in the back part of the garden are now blooming so exuberantly that even periodic squirrel attacks can't suppress them entirely:

That's it for now.

Friday...

A little snow overnight, which made for good dawn photography. Here's one example:

A nice contrast with yesterday:

Still more gardening than writing going on here at the moment, but that will change soon. In the meantime, check out the rest of my March photos.

The crocuses are performing so brilliantly I just had to share another picture:

More crocus pictures - these little guys popped up under my older apple tree yesterday.

Sunday...

After a gray dawn, a sunny day. It actually rained last night! It must be spring indeed. A beautiful moist smell in the air, and life stirring all around...

Today's photo: a pot of crocuses (croci?) from the cold frame. The yellow one bloomed last week, but the purple striped ones are just starting.

Friday...

Spring returned Wednesday, and today should be in the upper 60s! I've been busy at the computer this week, but with accounting, not writing - a necessary if less exciting part of the writer's life. First it was getting the information together to file my taxes; then I spent a couple more days improving my sales tracking spreadsheets so that the tax information will be better next year. And now, when I might start writing, the good weather is tempting me out in the garden...

Today's picture: spring in a pot: radishes and dwarf peas planted about a month ago in the cold frame. The netting is to discourage digging squirrels when the pot's outside.

Maybe more photos later today...

Monday...

Gloomy cold weather today with a trace of snow, a long way from last week's preview of spring. To brighten things up a bit, here's a picture from Caherconnell in Ireland:

That's it for now.

Saturday...

Colder weather yesterday and today, but here's a shot of spring in the coldframe I took earlier in the week. Catmint in the upper right, chives in the lower right, violets blooming in the middle! Meant to get another shot yesterday as one of the crocus bulbs is now blooming as well, but it was too cold to leave the lid up for long.

Maybe in a day or so... Lots of tulip noses appearing in the garden now. Definitely spring.

Thursday...

... and still researching (and gardening, and...)

After a long break, I've decided to start brewing again. Here's a picture of my first 3 gallon batch of mead, started last sunday. Nothing complicated, just local wildflower honey: quaffing mead, I call it. Should be ready to drink as soon as it clears, probably in a couple of months. This is an approach I worked up a few years ago while thinking about the sort of mead Gwernin and his friends would have been drinking...
